Shaped by the soulful sounds of Motown, the funk of James Brown and P-Funk, whilst being schooled by the legendary radio DJ The Electrifying Mojo, Atkins became a true innovator. From his modest studio, he ignited an interstellar electronic revolution with his early productions and groundbreaking label Metroplex.

Hailed as the "Originator of Techno," Atkins played a foundational role in shaping the sound and culture of electronic music. His influence as a musical architect is undeniable.

Fused elements of funk, electro, and European synth music with Afrofuturist themes, creating a groundbreaking new genre. His early project Cybotron, with Richard "3070" Davis, released the seminal track "Clear" (1983), blending robotic electro rhythms with futuristic visions. This was followed by his solo work under the alias Model 500, which further defined the techno sound with tracks like "No UFOs" and "Night Drive (Thru-Babylon)."

Now, Juan Atkins prepares to release a new Cybotron album, the first in 40 years. With his visionary mind we are still playing catch up from the first album being so ahead of it’s time. So this is not a comeback—it’s Juan returning from the future to the present time with an aural ascension designed to fast-track us into the next dimension.

Atkins' music is characterized by minimalism, synthetic textures, electronic funk and a deep, cosmic groove. His innovative use of drum machines and synthesizers paved the way for an entire movement that would influence global dance music scenes.
